Anastasia is on the path to being a pop sensation. I got to interview her about her goals and success thus far!

Anastasia is a pop singer based out of Toronto, Ontario. She just released her first single titled Kiss & Tell on February 14th, 2012 and her success has been progressing rapidly. She has been faced with all sorts of opportunities - opening for Hockey Fest along side Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, The Trews and Sublime. She was also named "The most talked about artist at the Juno's" by Ottawa's radio station called Hot 89.99FM. You can catch her music video for Kiss & Tell on her youtube and buy her song on itunes.

Vanity Overkill got to catch up with Anastasia in a special interview. After bopping around to Kiss & Tell every day on the street car and while getting ready to go out, I really wanted to catch up with Anastasia and see how she was doing. I could see via facebook she was coming out on top and I'm actually really proud of her. She proves that by working hard and being yourself you can really get everything you want. She deserves every opportunity coming her way.

VO: In a few sentences fill the readers in on who you are and what you do:

Anastasia: My name is Anastasia A . I am a recording artist as well as a songwriter. I write songs for other people and am currently working on my debut album!

VO: How long have you been singing?

Anastasia: I have been singing my entire life. When I was little, I would sit in my room for hours just listening to the radio while singing along. I remember calling in requesting songs and then recording myself singing them on my karaoke machine I got for my birthday one year. As I got older, I sang more and more but it was always something I loved to do. I never really thought that I would one day be on the radio like the pop stars I looked up to.

VO: When did you realize you wanted to pursue music full time?

Anastasia: It was around this time last year that I decided I wanted to fully commit to a career in writing. It has been quite the journey. I never realized until now that I should have gone full force a long time ago. I just accept that it all has to do with timing . I am so happy that I am pursuing it now that I have truly discovered who I am and what I stand for. I have grown a lot since college and I feel that I have a lot to write about. The industry is crazy, fun, stressful, exciting…it is what it is and I never really realized how much I fit in with all of it.

VO: Do you play any instruments?

Anastasia: My voice is my main instrument. I feel that as a singer, I constantly have to work and perfect my vocal ability. It is  something that needs continues work and training. Aside from that, I do play some piano. It helps me with writing. I have always wanted to take up guitar but never really got into it at a young age. I really enjoy working with programs and composing music that way. It has always been something I have enjoyed doing.

VO: I'm a huge fan of your new single Kiss and Tell. It is so cute and fun! What more can you tell us about the song? Does it have a personal meaning to you?

Anastasia: Thank you so much! Kiss and tell will always be very special to me because it is the song that started my career. I love how it makes me feel and how it makes people dance and smile. Ultimately, I want people to feel something when they hear my songs. This single will always remind me of this entire year and everything I went through. I think every song sort of sticks to an emotion or time in someone’s life ! This song will always bring back the good times, bad times and friends I have made this year.

VO: Who would you say are your biggest musical inspirations?

Anastasia: I have always looked up to artists that are a triple threat! Growing up I listening to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Robyn, Backstreet boys. I remember watching them perform or listening to their lyrics and feeling like I belonged on a stage. I have always admired the idea of a career in music. I really look up to Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Hilary Duff, Adele. I realize now that being a recording artist is so much more than just singing and recording. It is a whole lifestyle full of hard work, sacrifice, strength, patience, courage, and commitment. I feel like female artists in pop music specifically go through A LOT so I feel like we are all going through it together. It inspires me to see them go through so much and never give up.

VO: Who gives you the most encouragement to reach for the sky and fulfill your dreams?

Anastasia: Naturally I am very driven and I love to work hard to achieve my goals. I feel like when you know what it is you want, there is nothing that can stop you. This industry can be an emotional rollercoaster so I def believe that aside from your own encouragement to succeed, you need a solid group of people around you.

VO: What is your biggest accomplishment so far in your career as a pop singer?

Anastasia: It has only been a year but I am so overwhelmed with what I have accomplished. To have only one single out and it go to radio is amazing. Also the opportunity to open for bands like SUBLIME, ThreedaysGrace, The trews, attend the MMVA’S and JUNO’s with my favourite  artists, Get my dream placement on family channel, Play my own showcase at Canadian Music week, Win Toronto International music summit and do my first ever Hard Rock café performance, record with the most successful producers ! It has only just begun and I cannot wait for more to come.

VO: Do you kiss and tell?

Anastasia: Absolutely not!! Nice try though lol

VO: Where do you see yourself in the next couple of years?

Anastasia: I see myself getting on a tour. Touring is something I really want to do. I am hoping to have also released my first ALBUM.

VO: When I wake up in the morning I like to listen to Turn my Swag on by Solja Boy! What's your favourite song to get you going?

Anastasia: I really love “How we do” by Rita Ora or anything by FLORIDA!

VO: Where can we buy your album?

AnastasiaYou can find my singles on iTunes and amazon!

VO: Every time I watch your music video(daily) I imagine seeing it on the Family channel between shows or something. Do you have any intentions of pitching the video to them?

Anastasia: Actually, one of my BIGGEST dreams since I was little was to make it on Family and I literally just singed the paperwork and Kiss&tell is hitting Family Channel Tv and Online! We also just got approved on Rogers GALAXIE music !

VO: What was the first big concert you ever went to? Which big concert was your favourite?

Anastasia: Gwen Stefani was the first big concert I have ever been to. I really enjoyed the LMFAO concert because it was wild, fun, crazy and such a massive party all around!

VO: What's the best advice you've ever been given?

Anastasia: To remember to let go of your past and allow yourself to create your future.

VO: What advice would you give to a young girl pursuing her dreams of being a pop icon?

Anastasia: My most honest advice would be get a manager you can trust, put together songs, shop yourself only to the best and work on it every single day. It took me 8 hours a day online every day just to reaach the first stage of my career. You  have to work ,work, work! Stay true to who you are and figure out who you are trying to reach with your music. Between being yourself and writing music that is real, you cannot go wrong. Treat everyone with respect and if you’re not writing, performing, recording or in a meeting every single day you are not working hard enough haha,

VO: I know that you've done quite a bit of modeling along with music. I was wondering if you still had passion to do both or if music has become your main focus?

Anastasia: Music has completely taken over my life. I do enjoy modeling every now and then but I feel like it will never truly make me happy. In my heart I know that if I modeled for the rest of my life, I would become depressed. If I do music for the rest of my life…I would feel fulfilled. Modeling took me through some negative stages in my life and I never want to go there again. Music makes me so happy and it inspires, encourages and entertains people. Modeling only makes us feel worse about ourselves and tells girls that they have to look a certain way…I’m over it!!

VO: Do you have any celebrity crushes that you wouldn't mind kissing and telling us about?

Anastasia: John Mayer!

VO: What sort of style do you have? What is a main staple you think every girl should have in her wardrobe?

Anastasia: My style is young, flirty, girly and chill. I like cute dresses, short shorts and vibrant colours.  I personally love a nice pair of bright skinny’s and a blazer with a nice man’s watch! I think every girl should have something that compliments their unique style!

VO: Do you find there's a lot of pressure on you in the music industry to look a certain way? How do you manage some of the pressure?

Anastasia: There is so much pressure in the music industry to look a certain way. My style has always been preppy, beach chick, flirty and sweet. I have always been told that I dress too young for my age. I don’t really care because It makes me feel good .That is just how I like to dress. In this business, artists constantly have to do drastic style changes or have this distinct look that sets them apart. I enjoy being myself. Don’t get me wrong, I get a lot of crap for it. I get told “ you look too normal” or “ you can’t look like that, we need to make you look unattainable”. Like, what does that even mean? I want the girls that listen to my music to feel connected with me and I want to make them feel like who they are is attainable, cute , flirty and fun. They don’t have to stress about having expensive clothes or being like the girls on TV. I guess my dream is to be able to be the girl on TV that they see and relate to. I am so sick of bullying and I guess this is one of the ways I plan on changing things.

VO: Run VO readers through a day in the life of Anastasia on her path to being a pop star:

Anastasia: I spend about 5-6 hours online a day. That is a must to ensure everything is updated, connected and I am always exploring new opportunities. Then I am either in a writing session or recording. I am constantly working on artist development so I am either doing a photo shoot, working on my EP, writing for someone else and working on my music video! Right now, there is a lot of planning and promoting. I really need to get back into vocal training asap if I can find some time.

VO: Last but not least. Give us a quote to remember you by:

Anastasia: Stay true to who you are and never let fear stop you from making your dreams a reality.
